Winter houjicha (冬ほうじ茶) – Tozaka Chaen 80g
¥2,000
Winter Houjicha (冬ほうじ茶), 80 grams
Blend of cultivars, shutobancha (秋冬番茶) harvest: early October till early November
This Winter Houjicha comes from tea farmer Koichi Tozaka (東坂幸一), who claims houjicha as his favourite type of tea.
Tozaka has many great teas, but it is his houjicha teas that we have fallen in love with first.
This Winter Houjicha is harvested around October/November, a little after the normal autumn harvest (秋番茶) period.
Compared to the ‘Summer Red’ houjicha this Winter Houjicha is less outspoken, with a gentler and softly sweet character.
Woody notes, with a hint of a forest campfire, toasted sweet brioche bread, softly sweet caramel, nutty hazelnut & chestnut notes and velvety smooth.
This tea is the comforting gentle friend you want to curl up with on the coach to read a book.
