Wakōcha (和紅茶), Fukuda En
We’re happy to include one of tea farmer Fukuda’s teas to our selection. His nibancha (second harvest) wakōcha is a great example of a ‘standard’ Japanese black tea and seems to be the favourite black tea of many local people in Sonogi.
This is an easy daily drinker black tea, with a sweet and lightly malty taste that needs no milk or sugar.
There is a prominent flavour of raisins, a touch of warm wood and some stone fruits in the aroma of the leaves (ranging from a tart unripe cherry in the dry leaf to spiced stewed plums in the wet leaf).
A nicely balanced tea with sweetness combined with a refreshing tartness and some comforting malty notes.
