Sosui Hasegawa’s travelling tea room

Sousui (Hideaki) Hasegawa

In the middle of December (2024) the Ikedoki Tea team received a special spontaneous visitor: Sousui Hasegawa.

Hasegawa is a modern-day tea sage, travelling with his mobile tea room (cha shitsu) to share tea.

Hasegawa lives on a yacht in Hirado, and also has his travelling tea room van. He’s been traversing Japan, sharing tea from his travelling tea room with over 3,000 people. He has plans to sail across the world in his yacht and ‘deliver peacefulness from a bowl to people around the world’.

For an in-depth interview with Hasegawa, we suggest to read the article posted about him on the Global Japanese Tea Association’s webpage. He was one of their fantastic series of interviews with ’30 innovators in Japanese Tea’.

We were incredibly grateful and happy to share a bowl of tea with Hasegawa in the Sonogi harbour area, with beautiful rays of sunlight breaking through the clouds. Through his journey of connecting tea with people across Japan and over the world, we feel connected with all his other guests. Perfectly aligning with Ikedoki Tea’s mission to ‘Share a peaceful world through Japanese tea’, we felt very connected with Hasegawa’s vision and donated some Sonogi matcha to contribute to sharing tea along the way.
