Ikedoki Tea’s aim is to share teas from Nagasaki to an international audience. Whilst we mainly focus on inbound tourism and international sales, we also try to be involved in the local community. Ikedoki Tea’s founder, Matsu, initiated a tea party event this December (2024) at the nursery school his youngest daughter attends.
We spent an hour with 8 young mothers and their kids tasting different Sonogi teas, showing the diversity of the local producers.
Many of the younger generations don’t have a tea pot at home, have no idea how to brew tea themselves (often they just drink tea from a vending machine / convenience store PET bottle), and also have not whisked any matcha themselves. Even in such a tea-centred town as Higashisonogi!
We gave everyone the opportunity to learn how to brew with a kyusu, as well how to whisk matcha.
It’s always great to witness the surprise and enjoyment of everyone tasting teas they have not had before or seeing how easy it can be to brew delicious tea by themselves.
We’re sure we convinced some of these young mothers to start brewing some tea themselves at home.
After the tasting, Matsu concluded the tea party with his first ever piano recital. Congratulations Matsu on your first recital & also for keeping so many young kids entertained and listening!
